This page is a place for short, practical notes. Nothing overly technical — just things that have helped me make better photographs.
Working with Natural Light
A few observations from shooting mostly available light.
Soft window light or open shade is often more flattering than harsh midday sun. When the light is strong, look for open shade or use a simple reflector. Early morning and late afternoon give longer shadows and warmer tones that need less processing.
Composition: Keep It Simple
Less can be more.
Before pressing the shutter, ask what the photograph is really about. Remove anything that doesn’t support that idea. Negative space, a clear subject, and careful framing often create stronger images than busy scenes.
A Small Kit Philosophy
Why less gear can help.
Carrying one or two lenses forces you to move and think differently. A prime lens (or a short zoom) encourages you to walk closer or step back instead of relying on the zoom ring. It also makes you more present with the subject.
